Options

I've been playing with the route some more, adding things, taking things out, and so on, just to see what some of our options look like. It looks like if we spend a day at both Kings Island Amusement Park in Ohio and the Wisconsin Dells, it will be difficult to do the route as stated in the first draft and have time to stop and explore whatever randomness graces our path.

So here are some basic options:
1. use the first draft as our basic route (includes King's Island but not Wisconsin Dells)
2. create a new route based on the first draft, but replacing King's Island with Wisconsin Dells
3. go to both parks and drop the part of the trip through Michigan
4. go to both parks and drop the Rt. 66 part of the trip through Illinois
5. use the first draft route, add Wisconsin Dells, and accept that we will need to spend time on interstates just driving (as opposed to driving and stopping to see things on smaller roads) to make up time

I vote for either option 1 or 2, as I would rather have time to drive on smaller roads and see what's there than add a second park. But the floor is open for discussion.

  1. this is jamie reporting in......it is difficult for me to conceptualize the route and the places along that route so I will just be happy with only doing one amusement park, preferably king's island cuz i've always heard about it...I would also feel comfortable with planning this so that one day is entirely unplanned....meaning if our road trip is 9 days then plan for 8 so that we have one full day of "back-up"...in case we get lost by accident or on purpose....in case we get behind we won't feel rushed...in case we just wanna crash somewhere for a day cuz some particular location is just that awesome....and of course, i want showers!!

  2. camping near indy has laundry and showers--I was there last summer. Camping at spring mill state park--my cave thing, as pat called it--also has showers....so there are 2 days covered.
